"HOMECOMING" 2009 in Dumfries & Galloway
Burns Light, Whitesands, Dumfries

A spectacular calendar of events will mark Scotland's first ever homecoming year and it all started in Dumfries on 25 January 2009. A range of entertainment including lantern processions by local primary schools and many others, the burning of an effigy of Tam O'Shanter, his horse Meg, and the witch at it's tail, which was set alight to a lone piper, before The Dangleberries performed to a fantastic crowd. To show how proud we were to be asked to play at this special event, we performed our own version of 'A Man's A Man For A That'.
Crowds in excess of 10,000 came to Dumfries town centre to join in the celebrations, which included music from the 'Sensational Mary Barclay Band' and 'Skerryvore'. The day's events were concluded with a very moving rendition of 'Auld Lang Syne' performed by a collaboration of the Mary Barclay Band and the Dangleberries.
